Resolved Question: how to cut polypropylene plastic...?

basically its this box... http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.205-8636.aspx and i need to cut out most of the lid and add chicken wire or something liek that to make it like ventilated as i'm going to keep some hamsters in there lol. so how am i supposed to cut out the middle of the lid...? with a knife, scissors...??? i'm really not sure i'm no expert lol... thanks :D anything is appreciated :D...
